What the cool girls will be wearing, part 2…

What are people looking for now? When everyone has everything? Chic and effortless is always in style.

Looking forward to our first deliveries of Adam Lippes, coming soon.

Adam Lippes’ stellar resume includes being designer Oscar de la Renta’s right hand (he was named creative director at age 27). I discovered him in 2004 when he went on his own as ADAM… a super cool tee-shirt based collection that later became a contemporary powerhouse. He is now back on his own with his self-named designer collection.

Minimal but sensual. Sexy but covered. Easy to wear…everywhere.

We sense a hit…

We’ve been getting our street style fix this week from the men’s Spring 2014 shows.  The new collections always bring out the best from show-goers. This one comes courtesy of The Sartorialist himself.

What the cool girls will be wearing, Part 1…

Every few years we start a cycle of investing in a new crop of young designers. We are definitely in one!
For fall and resort, we are introducing over ten new designers.

One of them is Fausto Puglisi taking over the creative reins at the storied house of Emanuel Ungaro.

We carried Fausto’s namesake collection over a decade ago, and after a hiatus, Fausto roared back to fashion dressing Madonna and her posse at last year’s Super Bowl.

Both his first two collections for Ungaro had that “WTF” quality that is a sure sign that something interesting is about to happen (like every show from Miuccia Prada). But distance from these clothes creates desire.

Come fall, it’s exactly what you’ll want to wear.

He described his resort collection, with hints of varsity Americana, as “a woman eating a hamburger wearing Harry Winston diamonds”.

Enough said.

The sun is out and the temperatures are warm (maybe a little too warm around here?). This kind of weather always puts us in the mood for some outdoor festivities. In order to get some proper inspiration, we’re turning to one of our favorite books: Soiree: Entertaining with Style. Whether you’re in need of some tabletop inspiration for a 12-person dinner or  just looking for a delicious summer cocktail recipe, this book is the answer! It would also make a great summer hostess gift!

Nancy Rogers’ must-have while she’s in Kauai? This Jean-Paul Gaultier skirt. In a beachy, ocean-colored print, it’s an easy-to-pack piece.

my two cents: resort 2014 diary

It’s June, so it must be Resort. 2014, that is.

The fast-turning fashion wheel spins, and…voilà! It’s time to think of next spring!

Starting with a one-night trip to Paris to buy Dior, and then the whirlwind of New York. Despite some jet lag, some nasty rain, and just too little time, here are some highlights!

Clockwise from top left: The new first class on American Airlines // Our chic friend Linda Fargo modeling a must-have Saint Laurent // Sitting next to Rafael Nadal at my favorite restaurant in Paris, L’Avenue, the night before he won the French Open // A gorgeous avocado and pink grapefruit salad at L’Avenue

Clockwise from top left: Very chic water at Saint Laurent // Steven Tyler at the Stella McCartney party // Fur pillows and throw at Marc Jacobs // Exactly!

Left to right: Favorite dress of the week at Lanvin // Diane Von Furstenberg’s home in the sky

stella mccartney 14

Just when we’re getting our summers started, designers are already full steam ahead on next year’s resort collections. Yesterday’s favorite is no surprise: Stella McCartney. The designer presented her collection at a garden party (what feels more spring-y than that?). McCartney focused on head-to-toe python looks, mini-dresses with heart motifs, and a several pieces with a standout floral print – all with her signature tailoring, of course.
